Cool concept, it was pretty quick and easy to grasp. I failed two times due to getting too strong of a military, and running out of food, before realising I didn't have to build next to where I had already build, but I could build anywhere. I got a equilibrium going, and then my subjects decided to build something themselves! Neat way to force me out of my comfy zone, leading to me frantically clicking plains tiles to get my military back up before it reached 0. Good execution, but the buildings should be more distinct, maybe with distinct colouring, to discern what you just built at a glance. It would also be nice if the resource + and - indicators updated as soon as you build something, instead of the next day.
