I can access the save files and decisions from previous games in a new game. Though I will be implementing decision carry over in a few different ways. The reason I most likely won't just carry over save data is because most people play the first time what they really want to do, and then play another play-through with other paths. Their latest play-through would be what's saved as their decisions, but it might not reflect the decisions they actually want to have impact the continuation of the story. So for some important decisions there will be a prompt in the new game that allows players to confirm which path they took/wanted to take in previous game.

But overall the intention of doing multiple games is also to do a soft reset in a way. Many games like this game can get bogged down because the paths keep splitting and splitting, creating very complicated systems that diverge a lot. My intention for this series is for it to be relatively linear with off-shoot decisions and smaller side stories. Not multiple branching full story-lines. Sorry for the info dump but hopefully that makes sense.
If you've only played the demo and not the first game there definitely aren't any final romances Sam ends up with. The first game just covers the first few days of Sam's summer. It's only the first part of a much bigger story. In the sequel(s) there will be side stories where Sam can end up with one person. Hope that explains, from the sound of things this might not be a game for you
