I think I'm missing implicit rules, as if defense only consists in rolling a single die to try to match the higher die then there's no reason for the hitter to roll less than 3 dice?
On the pitch, the pitcher chooses 1,2, or 3 dice, so the more dice you have out, the better chance of a hit. On the hit/rob, you're right. To patch this, we played where any match of the hitters roll would be an out. Let me know how it works for you!
