Hey there! You should flank them to bypass the shield, or wait for them to open up for an attack and hit them before they hit you (this is way harder because you have to time this precisely). What I'm assuming you're doing right now is spamming attacks directly into their shields, which is the exact behavior the shield is supposed to discourage to make you actually maneuver around the enemies.
