I can't seem to join my friend. When I put in the code and try to click join it looks like its connecting for a second then stops and nothing happens.

Are you both playing on the same version? New versions almost always have sensitive changes to the game logic, so they aren't compatible with each other. If you are, when you try to connect, does anything pop up on the lower right of the screen, when you close the menu? What regions are you and your friend in? If you can remember, ofc
