What happened to you is the thing I warned about in the Updates Policy I pinned a while ago: https://itch.io/t/4870475/updates-policy So I'm still on version 0, and at this stage updates sometimes need a full or partial wipe. That's why your old vault didn't survive, like you already figured out, the old waifus collection process just doesn't work with how the game runs now. Going forward, if there's a waifu you really like, use the built-in save-to-disk option. That way you keep the image no matter what changes on update.
