I understand the confusion, the camera only moves when holding down the left mouse button. you can get genetic points by pressing E on other animals and spend points to mutate at the stand near the start of the race
Thanks for the explanation, I changed my ratings now that I understand the game better. You should really write this down on the itch page so future players don't get confused like I did!
