Thank you so much for the kind words! I really like the relationship between craft and literacy that you lay out — I think that's exactly it. If I ever do a follow-up manifesto, I'd love to go back and explore how a virtuous cycle of practicing both craft and literacy might look (if only because, selfishly, I struggle to keep both of those practices going at the same time!)

Here's a blog post about perceiving the craft in one's own art. It ends with a chart relating "ability to see" (that's literacy) with "technical ability" (that's craft). It says, "The ability to see improves before technical skill, and we often have difficulty assessing honestly exactly how our work looks."
