What the hell do you think gives you the right to criticize someone else’s choices? Have you ever successfully produced a VN of this quality and length? Have you ever even created anything entertaining for others to enjoy?
If the developer himself says that him developing two different stories side-by-side isn’t the reason why updates are “slow,” then it isn’t the reason why the updates are slow. It’s truly that simple, my guy. You do not know him. You do not know his life or his circumstances or what he does every day. You don’t have a clue what it even takes to produce creative works in the first place; so why in the hell do you think you know better than someone who actually does so on a daily basis?
And you know what’s more?
He doesn’t owe you jack shit.
He’s free to drop all of his projects right now, and you’d have zero right to criticize even that. Why? Because you’re not fucking paying him for these games.
In fact, nobody is paying him for these games. Sure, some people might be paying him small portions on a monthly schedule with the informal understanding that those payments will help him to continue producing games, but even they aren’t paying him to produce specifically these games, nor are they paying him to produce updates to these games at any specific rate. If he wants to take literally years in between updates, there isn’t a damn soul who can tell him that’s “wrong” of him, because it fucking isn’t.
I’ll reiterate: DEVELOPERS OF FREE GAMES DO NOT OWE YOU OR ANY OTHER PLAYER ANYTHING AT ALL. YOU DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO CRITICIZE THEIR DECISIONS OR COMPLAIN AT THEM FOR TAKING “TOO LONG” TO GIVE YOU MORE FREE CONTENT TO CONSUME.

Whenever someone complains about an indie dev who gives away their products for free taking “too long” and starts nitpicking about their personal lives’ as if some random asshole on the internet has any right whatsoever to even know about that developer’s life, let alone criticize it, they end up looking like a spoiled, selfish, entitled, self-centered, bratty child who’s yet to learn that the world doesn’t fucking revolve around them.
So, one more time: the world doesn’t revolve around you. Get over yourself.

In most cases, devs are open to healthy critique, but complaining that they’re taking too long to produce updates is unhealthy and certainly not a “critique” by any stretch of the word, it’s just a damn complaint.
Now, if you’ve, say, paid for EA software and there were explicit promises made by the developer regarding update schedules, and those update schedules weren’t being adhered to? Then, by all means, you’d be in the right to criticize them for it. But when a developer like N2TheFire produces games that he doesn’t even sell, you have zero right to complain about his development process; he can release every week or every two decades and you, as a complete fucking stranger who he owes absolutely fucking nothing to, are never going to be in the right when you whine about it.
There is nothing “constructive” about anything that you’ve said in this comment tree. What you’re doing could hardly even be called criticism in the first place. You’re just complaining, like a child who didn’t get his way and is throwing a temper tantrum in a pathetic attempt at guilt-tripping, shaming, harassing, or otherwise emotionally manipulating the developer into sacrificing even more of his time, energy, and money all so that you, the complete fucking stranger with zero ties to him who he has zero obligations towards, can play his fucking games quicker.
The fact that you think you’re totally in the right, coming here and repeatedly arguing that you know his life better than he does? It’s laughable how misguided and egotistical you are. You wouldn’t accept his clear explanation about why he was taking so long to release updates, and he didn’t even owe you so much as a response, let alone a fucking explanation.
You think you know his life better than he does.
You think that because your faulty-as-all-hell “logic” tells you it’s impossible to write two stories at the same time without quality or speed of production being impacted that that somehow makes it true.
Yet, I doubt very much you’ve ever created anything in your entire life.
I doubt very much that you’ve ever even written a story of similar length and quality.
You know why?
Because if you had, you wouldn’t be making such ludicrous arguments. You’d know better.
You’d understand that the delay you see in so many project’s release schedules doesn’t come down to technical needs or time spent actually putting pen to paper, so to speak, but rather on the simple fact that creative types get bored producing the same fucking works over lengthy durations.
Think about it for just a few fucking moments before you open your mouth to whine some more:
Picture yourself spending literally years immersed in the very same story with the very same characters. Not even writing the damn story itself but just constantly thinking about it all. It is simply fucking exhausting over time, and most creatives will start slowing down once the initial excitement of their project begins to wear off; that “slowing down” inevitably ends up in, as N2TheFire explained very clearly to you, burn-out, where the project no longer seems appealing and no ideas are coming, and it inevitably ends up being dropped, doomed to be never touched again.
Do you know what all the professionals say about avoiding burn-out, hm? The most common (and certainly the best) advice is to work on multiple fucking projects at the same time and refuse to fall into a strict ‘routine.’
This is precisely the same advice that neuroscientists uncovered about the ADHD brain; and it’s no surprise, given that ADHD folks are all highly familiar with the idea of burn-out, as they experience it at a rapid rate compared to neurotypicals.
But, you don’t give a shit about any of that, do you. You just want to come on here and complain away, acting as if you know everything and refusing to accept that you were wrong, that you were needlessly disrespectful to people who do deserve your respect, even if they don’t demand it of you. If you want to be treated with respect by others, then you should damn well aim to respect them, first.
