damn right. I always feel like it's more interesting if progression is tied to the player's actual increasing skill/understanding rather than an arbitrary simulation of "progression". I also keep thinking about that quote that's like it's only in RPGs where you get better at something by doing it correctly. even a game where you only get experience points for making mistakes, taking damage, missing attacks etc would be more interesting. because if your attacks are successful then surely you don't need any more points.
