The miners work automatically, everything within the yellow lines will be broken. But the miners stop, once their inventory is full!
The only way to clear their inventory is to send a receive request with Space, that'll result in your core (The starting building) trying to collect items from your miners. But note that the miners must be in signal range to your core. If not, you must connect them with a signal tower (you can think of them extending your cores range).
