Even though it's a small feature, it changes everything, and I think it's worth noting in the dev diary
The other day I was creating animations for the enemies. Spiders often groom themselves and move their front legs either to inspect their surroundings or as part of their natural behavior, so I created two intimidation animations, one attack animation, and four idle animations where the spider brings its front legs up to its fangs
While testing, I thought it would be great if, whenever the player was bleeding, the spiders could detect blood pools on the ground and, if standing over one, start playing those idle animations as if they were feeding on the player's blood
Said and done
I absolutely love this addition. The feeling of being wounded, leaving a trail of blood behind, and then watching the spiders begin feeding on the blood you've spilled creates an almost primal reaction. It makes the creatures feel more alive, more predatory, and somehow far more disturbing than a simple attack animation ever could
