I love horror games. This one was fantastic.

Feedback/Critique:

  • UI: I’m going to start here because this was the one area that I think is the weakest. There was no way to pause, no in-game menu, no volume controls. The game needed this to add that last layer of polish. Also, at the golden shop, for some reason, I was unable to purchase the crystal when I clicked on it, possibly bugged? That said, the UI otherwise was great - great intro, dialog and interaction tips not too intrusive, and the screen progression are all well thought out.
  • Onboarding: It was a bit confusing what I was supposed to do at first. When the first customer came in, I didn’t know what I was supposed to do and ended up shooting at him. It was only at the second customer it became apparent that I had to go to this door. That said, once I got to the door, it became fairly intuitive from there, though having the controls down at the bottom were probably not enough for the first time in combat, especially as I’m being attacked and having to process these controls at the same time.
  • Gameplay and other stuff: I’m going to lump the rest of the things I judge together, because overall, your fame was pretty fantastic. I loved the concept that came with this, the graphics were great and smooth, great sound. No music? :-( A minor ding - I think it would have lent some atmosphere to the game. But the loop was well done and I had fun playing this.

Overall: I know I gave you a lot of critique up front, but I had to get that out of the way because I loved this game so much. It was very well done. The points I highlighted are polish issue for a fairly cohesive and well put together game. Well done!

Thank you so much for your review! Your comment made my day!!

I definitely needed to handle the UI and onboarding better. I always fall into the trap of assuming the player already knows what has to be done. I just worry sometimes of holding the player's hand too much, but I'll aim to strike a balance from now on and also add some menus and settings.

The crystal thing is weird... Works fine with me. Did you have 5 pieces of meat when you clicked on it? And did the button play a bounce animation? I added the shop in the last couple of hours though so maybe it's really bugged. I'll check it out.

I considered adding music, but I couldn't find a fitting track unfortunately. I definitely need to learn some basic production for the future.

Thanks again for the constructive feedback and for hosting this jam! It was a great experience!

Check Kevin Macleod, the god patron saint of free music. He’s got a large selection, and something in there might work.

As for the crystal thing, I think I misunderstood what I was paying with, lol, I don’t think I had 5 pieces of meat after all.

Glad that your experience with this has been good, I am looking forward to more of your work!

Thanks!! I'll be checking him out! I guess the meat thing is further confirmation that I need to work more on onboarding haha
