Overall: Clean visual design with a cohesive color palette and some nice details, but unclear mechanics and some painful audio choices hold it back.
What Worked Well:
- Visual Design: The game area looks nice, the three footer buttons are well placed and easy to read, and the purple tiles and blue buttons work well together. The color palette is cohesive throughout. I like the wall breaker and spaceship graphics.
- Audio: The music works well and the spaceship movement sound is a nice touch.
Areas for Improvement:
- Unclear Mechanics: It isn't clear what any of the action buttons do when you first push them. The scramble button gets you through level 1, but in level 2 you get trapped and the break and block actions don't seem to break walls or help you escape. The game needs better communication of what each action actually does.
- Shrill Sound Effects: The timer countdown and action button sounds are shrill and hurt my ears.
- No Title Screen Audio: Since you’ve put in some sound work already, it would be nice to have some in the title screen menus, with hover and click states being added to buttons and getting sound too.
