Overall: A cool arena with some genuinely creative enemies, but unintended 3D movement and missing audio are holding back the experience.
What Worked Well:
- Leaderboard: Having a leaderboard instantly adds social proof and increases engagement. Great idea.
- Camera Movement: The way the camera shifts with player movement around the arena feels nice.
- Enemy Variety: The floating hand, trees, and cars are cool enemies, and having a bunch of different unique attacks against the player is a real strength.
Areas for Improvement:
- No Sound: The lack of audio takes a lot of oomph out of the presentation. Ask an AI to procedurally generate some simple chirps for you.
- OS Cursor Showing: The Mac system mouse cursor appearing alongside your character looks bad and is confusing. AI can write the code to hide it. You can also make sure the player character aligns perfectly with the cursor tip and moves at the same speed with no lag.
- Unintended 3D Movement: Left and right click move the player up and down in 3D space in a way that feels unintended. WASD also lets you change the camera angle. Once I figured out the vertical movement it actually became more fun and manageable, so it might be worth leaning into it intentionally rather than leaving it as an accidental discovery.
- Hitbox Clarity: The yellow lines sometimes don't kill you even though they clearly overlap with the player, which is a side effect of the 3D space. The little blue floating particles are also unclear until you break the camera and realize they can kill you if you're on the same height plane. The game needs better visual communication about what is and isn't a threat.
- Enemy Placement: The placement of enemies feels unfair, making your score more a product of luck than skill.
