Very nice! Let’s go through the feedback and critique:
- Graphics: Well put together. I like the CRT distortion effect that you added to the game (and the option to disable it). The bricks, key, and just about everything else was well designed. The only thing I’d say might need tweeking here is the avatar animation - you have him walking, does he need the hands up the entire time? It’s a small thing though, otherwise no issues here.
- Sound and Music: Good additions. The only thing that I would recommend for next time is adding a sound/music volume control into your game - at the very least a mute option.
- Gameplay: A very entertaining concept. I think this was well executed. However, the promised brick breaking in the tutorial never manifested in game (or if only certain bricks break, that was not made clear). The key sometimes would get bugged off screen if hit right/wrong, though walking around near the edges seemed to recover this.
- UX/UI: The UI was mostly well thought out. I appreciate the icons up in the corner for menu functionality, though I have no idea what they do just by looking at them. It would be helpful to put this in the tutorial or to have text/tool tips to clarify these. There are also a few spelling mistakes in the game that are distracting (the spelling of obstacle is most notable) that take away from polish slightly. It also sucks that there is no way to save my progress - if I close out and come back, I restart to zero. Consider an auto-save feature that saves the player’s progress. Also no credits - were all your assets done by hand? With AI? (I see it on your itch page, but its good practice to put these things in a credit panel in your game somewhere).
Overall: A very strong entry. Good gameplay with only minor polish issues. Well done.
