catch is that compost is easy to make and in the 2 hours you get until you run out of food you should be able to get 1 or 2 more plots, you only need few of them(~6) to cover your hunger and have room to spare
you can get compost by looting wrecks, bases or drones, by buying from station directly or ingredients, by composting plants or by composting compost at a plot :D
