I'm also having an issue with v0.6.4 [on Windows 11], but it's rather in the context of actually launching it.

Prior versions don't have this issue, but from v0.6.2 and onward, the newly-added meshoptimizer.dll is preventing SDF Modeler from launching, followed by this error message in the screenshot (also in the fallback alt-text if the image doesn't load):

Bad image
"Bad image" error message showing the directory of the file being executed, followed by an error status and the following message: "meshoptimizer.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support. Error status 0xc0000906"

When this occurs, the file in question automatically gets deleted.

This occurred via the extracted folder where I was trying to launch it in, but I tested to see if this was only v0.6.4 or it's also versions before or after v0.6.1. From my testing, it only seems to be earlier versions from v0.6.2.

Hi,

So far, the only similar reports I’ve received were caused by Avast incorrectly flagging meshoptimizer.dll as a threat. The DLL is built directly from the official meshoptimizer sources on GitHub, so unfortunately I’m not sure why some antivirus products are detecting it.

A few users were able to work around the issue by adding the DLL (or the SDF Modeler folder) as an exception in their antivirus software. If you’re using Avast or another security product, it might be worth checking whether the file has been quarantined or blocked.

At the moment there’s not much I can do on my end beyond investigating alternatives for future releases.

Cheers,
Sascha

👍🏾

For the deletion part, I don't know whether or not this issue is actually from that due to my antivirus being triggered whenever I try to launch the current version of SDF Modeler--as I assumed that it might've been an error in the file or program itself (or just Windows 11 being Windows 11 😂), but using McAfee Total Protection, I did another test where I inserted the file from the ZIP archive file into a test folder and scanned just the file itself. McAfee picked it up as a "threat" [ti!6C7D6B7BD72A] and deleted it (in this case, quarantined).

I don't know if I'm checking the right repository for meshoptimizer, but I did see that another person had experienced this false positive where Windows Defender also picked it up as a trojan.

Totally not forgetting to post this reply, SDF Modeler seems to work again after adding the file as an exclusion.

Glad you got it running.

I’ll keep looking into the issue and see if there’s a better long-term solution than relying on antivirus exclusions.
