Thanks for the feedback! We created all the artwork and code during the 9-day period. While I'm a digital illustrator, I don't consider myself a pixel artist. At least not an experienced one. So, creating the character and all the animations was a bit daunting and took up a lot of my time budget. But making the main character look and move well was a priority for me. I wanted players to enjoy controlling him.
In regard to the tilemap collisions, was it specifically just the spikes or did you not like the use of tilemap collisions for the platforms too? You'll be happy to know that our next update fixes the spikes and they now have better and more forgiving collision boxes.
Also, that specific location where you got stuck is probably the hardest section, especially on a keyboard. We are going to redesign the level in our next release. Our goal is to make this into a full game, with several levels, guns, enemies and bosses.
