Any chance you had "chill grinding mode" enabled in settings? Looking into the issue, I found a bug with that that makes the iron bars never open up.
I haven't released the fix yet, but if you want a quick fix, you should be able to disable the setting, then make sure the furnace is filled, and then re-enable it.
I'm working on a proper fix and will try to release it today.

"chill grinding mode" was supposed to keep it daytime and also not spawn any spooky things, basically just let you grind and progress in the game without worrying about anything threatening.
But the game has changed a bit over the months, and I kinda forgot about it which ended up breaking stuff.
Along with the fix, I changed the option up a bit and now it's called "disable spooky stuff", which among other things disables entities from spawning in the dark.
I might set up a Steam page soon as well, I was putting it off cause I had no idea I'd be getting so many people trying out my game and giving me so much feedback in such a short period of time!
