Hi. I wanted to try this out with a friend, and we followed the instructions, but neither one of us could invite the other through the "Invite Steam Friend" option or the steam overlay. Is there something we're doing wrong?
Thanks for giving it a try, it is my second project and my first multiplayer so please help me troubleshoot this. You do have to allow Unreal Engine multiplayer networking when you launch the game. Did you both open Steam before launching the game, then click multiplayer and saw the blue stripped background? The host can invite or the player can join the host via Steam Overlay. If the buttons do not bring up the overlay, you can turn on Steam and try through there. When the player joins the host can start the game or invite after starting a multiplayer game, either should work.
Okay, so we tried again. I did get the permissions prompt and allowed it, but my friend said they didn't get the prompt either times we tried. And same thing, click the 'invite steam friend' button did nothing and using the steam overlay to invite did not provide an invite option.
I guess for more information, we both using Windows 10.
If you both have Steam accounts on separate computers with pure Windows setup, the overlay should work. If the overlay does not launch automatically, it means your network is not allowed, your Steam does not allow it, or your antivirus does not allow it. If the game and steam are launched with different permission settings (run as admin) then it will not work either because permissions need to match Steam. This would not be an issue for a Steam demo as it auto matches it but through Itch it has some quirks. The game is made on Windows 11 64-bit, I can not test Windows 10 compatibility. How does it run in single player?
