I'm at 26 socks. Holding a knife. The game is beautiful, and has been great up to this point (though the draw puzzle had me really, really stuck for a while). But this stuff with the folders on the computer is not fun. I have better things to do with my time - and that's not a good feeling for a player to have! I'd really suggest changing that. Also, as another person commented, it's not really clear how to get the computer password: I had to make a rough estimate and then search around those values for a while.
