I'm quite confused. I guess it is because it's the v0.1, but I was unable to go past the rat king. There is no ladder, if you leave it's a fail, if you equip the crown, it's a fail, if you uses all of the consumable, it's still a fail.. A little "congrat, you finished v0.1" wouldn't have been too much.

It's a pretty fun game, altho very easy once you understand that the ennemies are slower than you and you can just "kite" I think it is called, walking outside of the enemy range just long enough to restore your health enough to go back to melee, and throw projectiles whenever the enemy is 2 blocks away (Sanity mechanic limit this, but just pick the set of potions at the beginning and you'll have more than enough sanity to explore 100%, fight all of the enemies like that, and still have almost full sanity after reaching the rat king)

That said, the easiness of the gameplay is not much of an issue player-side. The clarity and accessibility however is one :

I have no idea what Int, Dex, Str etc changes, I go all str and hope it does more damages, but a little explanation text next to these on the lvl-up screen wouldn't be too much. (not that they seem very important, I one-shot almost all enemies by the 2nd floor without investing in build, being a brute that jumps on all enemies, put everything in strength, and equip whatever have the biggest numbers pays off)

Similarly, most scroll's effect stays completely unknown to me, I do not understand how they work and what they are supposed to do. The scroll of sleep, for example, ask me to "select a target", but it doesn't do anything. I click on the player, it says "no target". I click on the rats, it says nothing and nothing happens. I try it on the rat king, nothing. The door, the ladder, nothing. So I gave up trying using magic, it's easier to jump on the enemy anyway, a nice corridor, two big sword, and a gruff adventurer's boots is all you need to beat up some fauna.

But to be fair, I died quite a couple of times at floor 2 because I couldn't equip gears. Nothing is explicit, you don't know what goes were, you need to read the description to learn you must drag the item you wish to equip, and not click, contrarily to food, to magic, to skills or to scrolls. Guessing that I must drag a gear back in the inventory if I wish to equip a new one wasn't that hard once I learned how to equip, but I wish there was an automatic swap. At least adding maybe a "drag to Torso" text with the item's name and stats when you hover over it might be a big help, if you do not wish to redo the whole gear and inventory system.

And this might be a more personal issue, but I dislike the game interface's graphic style. I just have a hard time reading it, the sort of greeny old-screen interface on the right side for the inventory, the console-like thingy on the left-down corner, and the current stats on the top-left corner, all textual, are not very enjoyable to look at. I constantly miss information, like my sanity reaching 5%, I do not notice my health going down, the inventory is a mess to follow, things are disappearing, things are duplicating, the consumable, the equipable, the food, the passive abilities, the active skills, it's all mixed together based on what was added the latest, it's not clearly separated and there are no real delimitation between all the information on this pannel. It all kinda blur together. (TBF, the graphical aspect looks pretty random and rushed, considering it is the v0.1, more time was probably attributed to the sprites, the map-generation system, the enemy's AI or the overall balance, but the interface is what the player first see and what they rely on, and it is in dire need of attention. Did anybody else got stressed that it goes "| MP | EXP| SANITY |"? Where is the spacing for the EXP column? the little space between the number and the | ?)

btw, might be my browser, but pressing esc closes the game, so another input might be better for scroll's or throwing's thingy when you can't find target.

Yeah the stairs down I just removed cos I haven't finished any content past the rat king so if you try to go down it just glitches out.

I will see if I can add useful tooltips to the stats, and work on the inventory and equips since a lot of people have mentioned it is confusing or awkward

I'll clean up the interface too. Initially I had everything in green with ascii but as I started making sprites you're right that now it looks super out of place. It might be worth me spending some time drawing a nice pixel menu for things with icons
