The truth is, I have tried making the other decisions that I did not choose the first time and the option is still not eligible. Unless it is an option that required choosing certain specific answers, I don't know.
The path does require choosing specific answers. In fact, there's only one combination of answers that'll enable the ability to take that route.
Broadly speaking, the choice needed at each prompt is generally the one that is passive, not considerate, and/or reluctant to make figurative waves.
Be forewarned that even within the scope of what's been written so far, the alternate route is not a particularly happy one.
