as for the coins, tbh we just directly translated it from spanish, coins is called "oro" which means gold, and in the rush of the game jam we just went with it, we realised later the name was incorrect.

As for staves, we usually find that both clubs and staves are used interchangeably, maybe it depends on the culture?

It definitely depends on the culture and the deck, the suit is called clubs in the standard deck but staves, wands, batons or clubs in a tarot deck, which is what this deck resembles to an Anglo eye.
