Very cool game! It definitely needs a lot of balancing and bug fixing, but the core of the game is already quite nice

I only played the web version, so maybe some of these issues are browser related. Also, there is a chance some of these issues aren't bugs, but instead mechanics that I didn't figure out since there is no tutorial.
Bugs I found:
- There are some problems when selecting a spell and targeting enemies, sometimes it takes pressing the number or clicking on it several times before it's selected. It seems to fail when you try to use a spell when hovering over an enemy, and also when you are still moving.
- The lightning spell increases your maximum energy (only visually).
- Agility doesn't always increase the duration to 2 turns if it's cast on the user. One time it instead reduced my movement to 2 on the second turn.
- You often lose movement points when using spells for no reason. Killing shrooms often causes this, I once somehow went from 4/4 to -6/4. On a different fight I used agility and at the start of my next turn I had -5/4. Sometimes you simply start your turn with 1 MP for no reason.
- Boulder's double damage if you haven't moved doesn't always work.
- I once got stuck editing the spellbook during a boss fight. I was unable to close it.
- When there are several enemies positioned vertically, their actions overlap. This is specially obvious against the wind goblin since it floats.
- If you are hovering over one of your units when the fight ends, their stats appear on the screen while you are choosing spells.
- All three offered sidekicks can be same one.
- You sometimes lose the turn of your units for no reason. I couldn't figure out what could be the cause of this. Your units simply get skipped. It's either that, or enemies get their turns sooner.
- Tunnel sometimes doesn't get the +3 range.
- If one of your units dies during their turn (from the fire on the ground), the turn doesn't end and you are stuck, unable to do any actions.
As far as balancing goes:
- The sun fish boss fight is kinda difficult and very punishing if you mostly have short range spells.
- Enemy attacks should tell you when they are able to attack multiple times.
- Soul strike + feather is quite a strong combo. In general feather is a really strong item if you get the right spells.
- It seems way better to focus on long range spells and mobility. Short range spells are usually not worth the risk.
- Snowball is incredibly powerful.
- Lobster healing all its health is a bit considering you can face them at the beginning of stage 2.
- Fire elemental looks a little bit strong.
- Lightning leaves marks on the ground permanently, which lets you prepare for the next fight by leaving one enemy alive and spamming the spell everywhere.
And I might as well write some other feedback:
- There's no options menu so I imagine this will be there when it's added, but having the ability to quit/restart a game would be nice.
- x2 or x3 speed option.
- Add a big reminder to equip your spells since I keep forgetting hehe.
- A more detailed summary of how my damage is modified.
- Burn and poison are a little too similar, the only difference I could notice is poison ignores armor. Maybe make burn damage deal damage at the start of the turn instead of at the end?
- I don't like the fact that you can use any spell on any tile. Sometimes it's useful, but why would I ever want to cast barrier on an empty tile? The only reason I can think of is to choose the direction you are facing at the end of the turn, but I feel there should be a better way to do that.
- While the mechanic of you units staying in the same place as the previous round is interesting, it often leads to situations where you can't dodge damage because enemies spawned right next to you.
That's all for now. I only played 6 runs and reached Merlin once (sadly had to reset due to a bug), so I imagine there's still a lot more spells and characters I haven't seen.
Some of these bugs are probably only happening on the web version for whatever reason... Seems like the game is much more unstable on browsers, specially chromium based (judging from other feedback I've heard). Should work better in the other versions.
In speficic, the bugs related to losing MP and the earth spell's mechanic not working I'm sure are all related, it appears that the game is having issues with the triggers for these effects.
About balancing & other comments:
- Sun & Moon Fish. Poor guys seems like I'm never able to properly balance them lol. I've reworked / nerfed this fight many times but it seems I haven't yet reached a good spot for it. I'll keep that in mind.
- You can actually turn any selected character using WASD / Arrow keys! Also, just hovering hover a spell also turns your character, so you don't need to use a spell to turn to a desired direction.
- I think Burn and Poison might differentiate themselves more once I add more spells for each. In the end though, I think I'm fine with them being similar.
- I'll probably make it so if you have at least one new spell after a fight / shop, the spellbook opens automatically so you don't forget to equip anything. (Maybe also make this something you can turn off on the options)
- On a general note about difficulty, I appreciate the comments about what might be too hard for the base game, it helps to inform me what should be moved to the hard mode (whenever I implement it)
Anyway, thank you so much for taking out the time to write all this down! It helps a lot!
