So so so many bugs on the app ! Cloudfare loop, windows defender blocking the app and so on...

Hello Itch io Team !

It's been months (if not years), and the app is still unsuable on Windows (10) : cloudfare loops, incessant antivirus bug, windows defender being unable to recognize your app as safe (even just to download it!) etc...

When will it be FINALLY all solved ?

Sorry for being rude, but it's really a pain to deal with, and it's been a while now everyone has been complaining about it !

I have not found any update posted by the devteam addressing those issues, officially. (And the user guide is totally useless to solve all those problems either) The "fix" provided by other users (not Dev team) are obsolete too (and complex)

After uninstalling the app because of the cloudfare loop, I cannot re-install it (despite deleting the antivirus before hand bc I kwo it would mess it up) : 'broth' is still not flagged as safe. Another problems : the installation straight up freeze and never ends... I cannot install the app on "C:\" either...

I know you do not have the same budget as GOG or Steam, but come on...! It's starting to look like a lot like amateurism.

At least, good ol' browser works, and we can still download games straight up from there, I know. Updating games through it is a(n another) pain though...

Anyway, despite everything, thanks you for your (undoubtable !) hard work !

I am hoping for a 2026 Christmas miracle were the incessant and redundant bugs will be solved...

Based on what you’re saying it sounds like you’re stuck on an old version of the app. Please make sure you are on the most recent version before posting any issues. As of this post, it’s version v26.9.0.

Edit I checked API key logs for your account and it looks like the last version of the app you connected to the site with was 26.1.9, which is a 2 year old version of the app. Please update!

windows defender being unable to recognize your app as safe

Do you have any third party security software installed? We’re not aware of any issues with Windows Defender reporting the app or any of its components as malicious.

‘broth’ is still not flagged as safe.

What do you mean by this, can you share a screenshot? broth (aka broth.itch.zone) is our domain for a service where we host the app’s update files, it’s not a piece of software that goes on your computer. Do you have some kind of firewall rule setup or something?

cloudfare loops

We’re not aware of any outstanding issues with cloudflare loops on the most recent version of the app. It’s possible that you may encounter the cloudflare anti-bot check within the app, and you will need to complete it, but it will not get stuck asking you in a loop

My problem is that I cannot update, for the last two years, indeed. It used to work though, but now Cloudfare loop constantly. And checking on Reddit or here, users still have similar problems to mine a few months ago. Sadly, without being able to update, I won’t be able to use the app…

Honestly I have just abandoned. Everytime I try something else, another problem arises : if I uninstall my antivirus, windows firewall still block the app from either being downloaded or installed.

Once I manage to get the firewall to let the app being downloaded, the installer bugs and freezes, I have to forcefully stop the process.

Once I manage to finally install the app after trying a few time, when I try to run it (without any antivirus yet) I get a message from the app it cannot run because of the antivirus (although none is installed)

I haven’t used the app in ages because every time I try to update it, I loose hours of my time for nothing. Maybe my old laptop has to go ? Maybe windows 10 is obsolete to run the new version of the app ?

Anyway, thanks for trying to help me though !

There’s no reason that the app shouldn’t work on Windows 10. If the updater isn’t working then I recommend trying to fully uninstall whatever you currently have, then do a fresh install by downloading from https://itch.io/app
