It's left mouse. Mines the selected (ie, nearest the centre of the screen) block.

oh, press AND hold. if there had been some indication that progress was being made that would have been easier to discover.
I had some bars and clocks in early versions and I couldn't get them looking nice. I think I persuaded myself people would just instinctively know somehow!
