I got the thing that shows the locations of all the rats early on, so I decided to go for the rat pacifist achievement. If I ever had one health left over, I would damage the bricks instead of killing a rat. In the end, if I had killed rats instead of breaking bricks, I would've had enough XP to level up, which would've given me enough health to kill the dragon.

So does that mean the only way to win as a rat pacifist is to get lucky and find a heart under one of the bricks? (The book says there's still two more on the field. I assume they would have to be under the bricks, since everywhere else is marked.) Or is there something else I'm missing?

so the rat pacifist needs some early luck, as in finiding the gold and egg as early as possible.  You may have noticed that it takes more and more EXP each time to level up, so the heart-recovery is more valuable near the end rather than the begining, but it IS dooable, AND if you get truly lucky you can get all 3 mercy rewards in one round, but it taskes TRUE luck

I honestly don't have any recollection of the egg, so I guess I probably clicked it at some point without realizing what it was. How is finding it early helpful?

With the map state where it is in that screenshot, and the book saying there are still 2 more hearts somewhere on the board, that means they have to be under the bricks, right? I want to make sure there isn't anywhere else the hearts could be that I'm overlooking.

So the Egg is the next generation of the dragon, you can save it for a reward stamp, or find it for 3 xp. it's always in the 9 squares around the dragon

And as far as the hearts go........ I looked at your pic, know where the hearts are, lots of people know where the 2 hearts are, I trust you to figure it out on your own.

No, they’re not under the bricks. They’re under Romeo and Juliet (the two P9’s).
