Controls are a bit unusual for sure, you don't accelerate or steer the car with different inputs, it goes wherever you point your input at !
If you're on keyboard, view it as an analog stick, but with a controller it should be more clear :) The car in itself has some inertia, and this part is fully intended (There are perks that improve this part as well)
