The first item is already fixed in the upcoming version.
The second item was a silent design change. I didn't like the nightly interruptions and so I changed it in a way that you can use mysterious cubes on your cargo Bay terminal and then you get this election menu that was previously only opening once per night. Benefit is that you can now use it more than once, but each time one cube will be consumed.
