Hi!

Create a schedule. Figure out when you’ll have the most free time and focus on that.

What I do is plan the pre-production phase. When the theme is revealed, I spend at least 24 hours (in week-long jams) establishing the mechanics, making an asset list, designing scenes, lore, and creating a Game Design Document (GDD)… It doesn’t become a bible; you have to be flexible and adapt to the time, circumstances, etc., and change part or all of it if it’s not turning out the way you want.

Sleep, eat, socialize… Clear your mind. My best ideas or solutions when I’m stuck happen when I’m in the shower, for example.

But above all, don’t put too much pressure on yourself. It’s okay to fail. I have many half-finished projects because I lost interest or got stuck. It’s not a tragedy, is experience.
