Can the "MetroidVania" tag really be applied to a top down? I know there's not really a hard-set definition, but I feel like the sample pictures don't really give me much MetroidVania feeling... Not that it looks bad, but there's zero platforming involved, which I think is a pretty big part of the genre. I'd say platforming is fundamental to the genre.
I just feel like the description doesn't match the gameplay video, and I have no idea what to expect from it.

That’s a fair point, but like you said, metroidvania isn’t really a strict term.
After all, there are 3D Castlevanias and first-person 3D Metroids.
In Magical Blush, I try to capture the exploratory essence of metroidvanias, with backtracking and abilities that open new paths.
