this looks great and i want to love it but there are MAJOR issues.
firstly, the keyboard controls are just worthless. wasd is great and all but having E for melee means it's really hard to attack and move, worse if you want to use shield, ranged on Q is annoying. since binds are gonna be an issue for everyone, having the ability to customise them would be nice.
the magic system is confusing. i'm guessing you can regain it somehow but i haven't gotten very far yet to tell, and once you run out melee attacking will just get you killed. i'm sure the enimies have some kind of stun but it's too short and the werewolf just outranges you, so what i find happens is the second you run out of mana, you lose the ability to fight.
falling off the map shouldn't be an instant game over, like please. i don't want to restart the entire level because i missed a jump. maybe instead you lose a heart or just half a heart and reappear on the last solid ground you touched?
shield just doesn't work. you don't take damage sure, but you have to be standing still for a second to start it, it uses mana when you're hit and you are knocked back, putting it on a cool down. i completly agree with it losing mana when you're hit but the delay to use it and to cool down feels like a punishment for not killing the enemy before they could shoot, which can only be done with the ranged attack, which also uses mana, which means that using a shield punishes you even more for not killing the enemy earlier.
those spikes, at least the first you see, are just plain confusing. maybe i just have game journalist brain, but when i got damaged by the spikes, i was just confused why i lost health, to the point i immediately just walked back into it and died. what i would do is firstly highlight it more, at the moment it just looks like something in the background. secondly it needs some knockback so you can tell what caused the damage a bit better. thirdly, maybe it's just personal preference, but i don't think spikes should be just a random environmental hazard; make them part of the walls, part of the ceiling, part of the floor but just placed there and doing damage doesn't make sense.
you need a tutorial or at the very least hints. you've probably noticed a theme with everything i've said so far, it's just a little confusing what's going on. you can pick it up quickly for sure but just a little "hey, this campfire is warm and relaxing. if i stay here for a while i'll feel much better" would help so much, just to give an example.
the wall jumping, and jumping in general, feels slow and too weighty, you should be able to jump high, faster, not feel like you just got of "my 300lb life". maybe i got spoiled by Ori and the Will of the wisps, but not being able to immediately jump off walls feels wrong, having to jump again to stick to walls feels worse. what i'd suggest is you automatically stick to walls when you hit them but start to slide off after 2 to 3 seconds, or maybe a litttle longer, but you can immediately jump back off. you should also jump a little higher of stay in the air longer if you hold jump. also coyote time would be great QOL if it's not already there. having an extra few frames to jump feels way better.
i like the enemies, but i feel i should mention issues with them. the snowman is great but it does feel a little unfair. it needs a bit more telegraphed of a windup before it attacks, should be able to miss when you stand still or at least be a little inaccurate especially when not throwing directly at you and should probably suffer a little more knockback. the werewolf is just too powerful, as mentioned ealier, melee is hard against them. the only way i could melee them is by waiting until they looked away, hitting them in the back and running. you cannot make a follow up attack, their attacks hit harder and are faster then yours, so by the time you can hit again, it's turned around at can hit you. the slimes having a ranged and melee attack is an odd choice that i like and dislike. if thier projectiles were larger or easier to see, it's a nice gimic, but they already have bouncing around so i think they should be split into ranged and melee slimes which are separate. melee would work the same as they currently do, minus the ranged attack and ranged should try to move away from you to shoot at you. perhaps they could be ice slimes with big icicles sticking out which they launch at you to attack with, so touching them still does damage. IDK
the background and what you actually interact with look too similar, so sometimes you can just walk through what looks like a solid wall.
finally, getting into animations with the enemies should probably stop the other's from moving or put them in the background, and the camera should probably zoom in for a bit.
with all that said, i like the game and i'll be following it's development with great interest.
