"no NSFW" rule limits in regard of violence ?

Hello,

i might like to put some violence in this game. I'd like the game to tackle the issue of abusive relationship, whatever the theme.

Except that abusive relationships deals about violence, like psychological, physical, even sexual violence. Even if they are just suggested to the player, sometimes metaphorically, it's still violence. What is allowed regarding the no NSFW rule ?

It鈥檚 just for sexual stuff I think

  1. Gore is fine, but don鈥檛 rely on it, build tension and atmosphere.
  2. Cut all explicit sexual content on screen - stories can contain that, tho it shouldnt be the main focus + very limited (warning at the beginning of the game needed)

Ok !

Thanks a lot for the answer. I planned to not go gore anyway, whatever the idea i'll code. I'll think about warning if i need (better to put too much than not enough)

Quick update, some of these cases involve topics that go way too far, so I do not want any games covering or referencing sexual content in any way, implicaitons are okay as long as they are only necassary.  Please use good judgment and think carefully about anything you choose to include.

Only "some" of the cases go too far? You don't seem to have thought any of this out very far.

Not to be mean, but it's likely that you are going to traumatize yourself with some of the entries you might get. I find horror fascinating, but this twee attitude towards the subject coupled with a cash prize is going to attract some disturbed people, not to mention the ones that fetishize it.

I know there are tons of crazy serial killer cases that go too far, I should've changed my wording from "some" my apologies there. If someone participating were to read the rules they would realize very quickly that I am not looking for some shock-factor game/extremely controversial game to play. I don't want these games for simply entertainment, I want it to be an outlet to educate people on stories they might not have heard of.  Anyone that makes one of these games did not look into the rules at all, and they would not be winning the jam.

I'd argue that ALL real violence goes too far unless you're looking at it from a "wanna stay fun with it" perspective, but I'm probably coming from a different life experience than you.

If you think you could take every product that comes out of this jam and proudly display it to every victim's family as a respectful exploration of their suffering, you're being wildly optimistic. Even you are limiting topics that even "safe spaces" for the topic don't in order to make it palatable to advertisers on YouTube. It's so detached from empathy and so many people don't even seem to realize it that it's just... really unfortunate.

I kinda agree. Like it's best in the rules to have details about real killers exploit. It's voyeuristic

I get what you mean. Like there is opposite POV for serial killers documentary. The same case could be portrayed as the victim's pov, the impact, the horror, and some create a cool super villain fetishising it

I guess that the difference you talk about
