Thanks Alan, as a novice to the QL before your help I had been trying to run everything from the WIN drive or as an MDV, which meant trying to convert things originating from a floppy image to one of these formats  which was time comsuming and sometimes not possible. Since it is so easy to do I don't know whya little routine for running floppies was not put into the QL core, consdering there is one there for running MDVs.

Now I can simply run FLP images e.g. Beano knowing they will work straight away.  (It had been one I was struggling to convert) As you will be aware theres is a large library of FLP_img(s) to download. I even found one to brush up my German vocabulary written by someone called Alan Pemberton :-)

Glad it helped. What would be easier would be an alternative version of the QXL.win file to download with a selection of games as microdrive and floppy images pre-loaded in a single folder and a program to select and run them. Then all you need to do to add a new one is just drop it into the games folder.  Just like you do with the Next itself.

I have my win1_ set up like this. Maybe I can tidy it up and make it available for download.
