Read the Game Jam guide page.
-
Try to participate first in other minijams (when I have enough time I participate in “Trijams”). A lot of experience and ideas can be adquired!!
-
Once the theme is revealed, expend the first day with a pen and paper (better a lot of papers). Ideas, words, connections, search in other jams… A core cool mechanic, then other 2-3 minor mechanics (only if needed), a list of sprites and items for the game, lenght, etc.
-
Be VERY flexible. If you are blocked, overscoped your game, running out of time… Think about the minimum expression of the game. Is far better having a little polished game than a massive game full of bugs.
-
Designing, aesthetic… Is important. Also a minimum lore to create a more inmersive context is apreciated.
-
THE MOST IMPORTANT THING: Enjoy the experience, get fun, talk to others (Discord, Community…), play other’s games, give feedback, learn… Is the BEST part.
