I designed the steam version with the intention to make every mechanic meaningful, I noticed that a lot of times many people just want the option to deny the entry but not eliminate the neighbor so that's why I added the option, but this also creates a new problem, I didn't want to punish people for deny the entry, that's why you can get a good ending even if you deny the entry, because if we think about a little bit, it is your job to distrust and that's ok.

And for the doppels to reveal themselfs, in the first version of the game it was very easy to trigger and I want to make it not to easy to do, so that's why I did it in that way in the 2.0 version.

I know that the new version lost part of the charm but it was necessary, the first version was more like an experience than a game, all the cut content and changes where made to fit the new mechanics and systems. But you can always play the two versions whenever you like.
