This is a neat and sweet little story! I like how the central relationship figures in, there's a bit of tension there but it comes from a place of genuine care, and I like where it ends up. I like how it's reflected in the combat sections where it's kind of a gauntlet in the cave to make it to the back as David alone before you run out of potions, and when Evan joins you see how well they complement each other. I like how the focus of the fights gets tightened down to the calculus of "should I heal now or can I afford to attack twice this turn before our health gets too low." It's straightforward but effective in this context.
