Really love the concept with a gameplay loop well executed. The game would benefit having a threat of some sort, something keeping you from mining straight down.... Love the goblin sprite, might be my new spirit animal !!

You are completely right about needing a threat, punishing the 'dig straight down' strategy with some enemies or traps would definitely spice up the gameplay and balance the progression.
