Depending on precisely how bad the damage to your PC's drive was and if anything's been overwritten, it might be possible to recover the files without a backup.
There's a free tool called Recuva I used to get a handful of files that were "permanently" deleted, and there are definitely others out there that may be even better.
It's far, far from a guarantee, but I felt like it's worth letting you know if you haven't heard of it.
