Hi! Just started the game - got to say I love the premise and am excited to make progress. Rolled up my wizard and starting to get the rules straight, but have 1 query. I'm a bit lost with the Glyph example on pg33, and am hoping you can clarify? Am I right in thinking that the Jack (1st card) means the overall shape is triangle; the 4 (2nd card) makes the points triangles; the 7 (last card) is the dotted lines connecting them; and the cog, circle and arrows are just added for flare and not dictated by any cards?

Hey,

Yep! You are correct. Those 3 cards define the shape, vertices, and lines. The other features are decorative elements you add on to the spell from other cards or, when you complete the spell, inspired by the cost. The idea is to give you a solid foundation for your glyph that you can easily add to if you're feeling inspired or leave as is. It will look nice either way sitting alongside your various journal entries.

Grimoire can be a punishing game, so make sure to consider the cards that have already come out before you decide to quest or research. Also, I suggest playing with these rule modifications if you want to reduce the difficulty:

  • When you perform, simply discard the card without modifying your spells if a matching suit was drawn.
  • When the prompts on a card are exhausted, don't completely remove the spell. Leave it as is.

I hope you enjoy the game! :)

Thank you for your speedy reply! I'll definitely keep those rule change suggestions in mind :) I'm new to TTRPGs and I'm loving being creative through spell creation and prompt answering. You created an awesome game with Grimoire - I'll definitely be looking at your other games once I've played through more of the No ICE in Minnesota bundle.

Welcome to the hobby and thanks for supporting the bundle :D . And thank you for the kind words! There are some really awesome TTRPGs in the bundle of different styles, so you'll hopefully get a good idea of the breadth of the hobby from it :) .
