Making an entertaining platformer is a very complicated task nowadays. There are just so many of them on the market and they kind of used all the potential of the genre already. Still, not a bad entry.
What was good:
- I really like the visuals! Good job!
- It's nice that you can always see what's going on in another dimension to plan your actions. There are many Jam entries with the same idea, and most of them forget that the player should always know when to switch to another dimension for the game to be fair. Thankfully, you got this part right! GG!
- Liked the music playing in main menu and the cyberpunk dimension or whatever it's called
- Most of the time the character controls feel smooth
What could be improved:
- The prehistoric (yellow) dimension has a very "heavy" music theme. You don't feel it at first, but after switching back and forth between the dimensions for a while, the first beats of the yellow dimension music tire you out
- You don't really feel the progression. In such games, it's very important to introduce new mechanics with each level - just jumping on platforms and swapping dimensions gets old pretty quickly
- In my opinion, the object pushing mechanic you have was underused. After the tutorial part where I had to push a barrel to proceed, there were no segments requiring use of that ability for quite a while. As a result, when I actually stumbled upon a segment where I needed to push a big safe and another yellow barrel towards a high wall to pass, I got stuck for 10 minutes or so, because to that time I already forgot that object pushing mechanic even exists in the game.
Still, if the itch.io page is not wrong and that's your first game - it's a solid start!
