Ayo! Admitedly it is bit obfuscated explanation. Spoilers: The selection on the screen is ment to show a rectangle outside the qube. Pressing the button works as a two way teleport, swapping the space (and all it contains) between the corner boxes and outside selection. So the jet engine and control board have been snatched from another ship with this contraption. I hope this makes sense!
