My honest feedback so far:
I disliked Valentina breaking the 4th wall because it kept haunting me as I played as if Valentina was just an actress playing her role in the story while being aware that this is a fiction which kept breaking the 4th wall and my immersion all along the story which is why her 4th wall breaking scene really damaged my experience of this game and I have been trying my best to forget it and pretend she never broke the 4th wall for the sake of saving my immersion.
Breaking the 4th wall is always a very risky move as it can potentially completely ruin the immersion and experience of a story and should always be considered very carefully, it should be kept for stories which are specifically designed to break the 4th wall for a specific purpose from the start and never ever be done in stories which were not designed to break the 4th wall to begin with as breaking the 4th wall in such immersive stories only break their immersion which is why this was a mistake here so please remove this immersion breaking introduction.
In my opinion, To Be A King is an interesting adult visual novel about becoming the King of a roman Empire, managing our Empire, maneuvering through political intrigues and power games, interacting with other nations, making alliances and/or wars, all while developing relationships and building our harem while being careful to not cause conflicts between our women, it is a very deep and rich adult visual novel... which hasn't been updated for a long time which frustrates me because it really grew on me. 😒
And which has been infuriating me to no end because it has been SO DAMN OBVIOUS that Felix is a traitor conspiring with Isabella and yet, you haven't allowed us any opportunity to confront him, you have been imposing us to pretend that we are oblivious to everything going on around us or more accurately, you have been imposing us to play a dumb character who I lost count of how many times I already cursed because he never ever notices anything wrong going around him and has been blissfully ignorant to all the conspiracies plotting against him!
If he was not our character, I would WISH for such an idiot to be back-stabbed and I would ENJOY this well-deserved fate, but alas, he is our character, so I have had to bite my hand and contain my frustration to witness his stupidity while I am supposed to be him.
And this is the weak point of this promising story because we have been imposed a stupid character for the sake of not solving plots too quickly, like when we catch Aristhenes, Lydia and Isabella conspiring together and we are imposed to arrest only Aristhenes for treason and let Lydia and Isabella go and keep conspiring by themselves even though they are clearly dangerous and if you marry Lydia (which I tried out of curiosity before reloading and rejecting her), then Goddess Anna personally marries you and tells you "I will ensure that it will not go too bad" hinting that marrying Lydia is an awful choice but she will take care of damage control.
Just like it has been made obvious that Felix conspires with Isabella against us and yet we have been imposed to ignore this grave threat again, which has made this promising story turn really frustrating and even infuriating because of how we have been imposed an oblivious character who ignores even the most obvious plots. 😒
Moreover, every young woman is all over him and claims that he is “handsome” but every time I see his face, I want to puke because of how OLD AND UGLY he looks, which really has been posing me a hard challenge to immerse myself into this story and enjoy being this lame character both because of his appalling looks and his utter stupidity, I hate being him and I have been cursing you for imposing such a repulsive player character even if I want to continue playing this story because even though the protagonist is unlikeable, at least the story is deeply intriguing and gripping, which has made it so frustrating that it progresses so excruciatingly slowly...
Indeed, after chapter 10, To Be A King has been dead until it was finally updated to Chapter 11 which was disappointingly short after such a long waiting and it is dead again ever since.
Each update adds a short chapter and each short chapter takes forever to be released, hence my statement that "this has been progressing at an excruciatingly slow pace".
So why has it not been continued for years after chapter 11?
Is this actually abandoned? 🤔
If this is not abandoned, then I humbly request you to improve the protagonist's looks to make it so that when every young woman hits on him and claims he is handsome then I ACTUALLY CAN believe it because he DOES look handsome instead of the plain old man that you have been imposing on us so far and who has been very unpleasant to play as.
And less humbly, I swear to you that if you STILL do NOT provide any opportunity to arrest Felix after having already imposed on us to ignore his very suspicious behavior for so long then I will go postal because I can only take so much frustration before I unleash it all...
I was told that this game's development has been slowed down by the author adding evermore girls to date.
However, the last girl added to the characters sheet so far is Kamaria and she has been introduced before the protagonist even became King, there has been no new girl since then, all girls have already been introduced from the start and we already met the leaders of all factions in Caudium so the only new girls who I have been expecting to meet are the Princesses from other Kingdoms like we already did Princess Estrid from the Danish Kingdom.
The harem includes 12 women so far, 15 if I hadn't rejected 3, which is not an unreasonable amount for an imperial harem.
Indeed, the only 3 women that I rejected so far are Diana because I had to choose between her and Dinah and I chose Dinah so I didn't even reject Diana, it is the game which rejected her when I accepted to marry Dinah, which leaves actually only 2 women that I purposefully rejected so far who are Isabella because I know she doesn't love me and has been conspiring with Felix against both the royal family, Aristhenes' family and me as I caught her conspiring with Aristhenes and Lydia to get rid of Marius and make me King then she betrayed them and has been harassing me to make her Queen and I am fairly certain that if I marry her and make her Queen then she would get rid of me and remarry with Felix to make him King, and Lydia because she poisoned Aricellus and lied to me about it even though her guilt makes no doubt since she specifically inquired which cask of wine was Aricellus drinking then she ran away as soon as she was satisfied with the answer and right before Aricellus died, then she pressed me to marry her even though I did give my word to Aelinia that I would not marry Lydia before herself, Lydia tried to make me break my promise and was obsessing over becoming Queen, even more than Aelinia has been, and even though she poisoned Aricellus with Aelinia, she betrayed Aelinia to become Queen herself, which doesn't inspire trust one bit, especially since she was one of the 3 conspirators along with Aristhenes and Isabella that I caught conspiring against both the royal family and myself as they were plotting to make me their puppet king even though I could arrest only Aristhenes and was forced to let Lydia and Isabella go freely so they can keep conspiring in my back, which has really been frustrating me as it was utterly unfair and absurd to arrest only Aristhenes as if he was conspiring alone and I DID wanted to arrest ALL 3 OF THEM so I have been rejecting Lydia and Isabella ever since because I do not trust any of them one bit and they SHOULD be in the dungeon with Aristhenes and along with Felix who has been an OBVIOUS traitor as well who I have been frustratingly forced to blissfully ignore as well! 😤
So the only 3 women who I rejected so far are the 2 women who I have been wanting to arrest because they are obvious conspirators who I do not trust one bit and Diana who I did not actually reject on purpose because it is the game which rejected her when I accepted to marry Dinah but except these 3 women, I have been accepting every other woman and every each of them has her own resources, experiences, skills and wisdom to bring to the table which is why I do NOT want to select one single Queen and am hoping that I can create a new political entity which will involve ALL of them to assist me in managing Caudium.
Indeed, I have been imagining how a Council with all of them would be so much more useful than to select only one Queen and therefore I actually want to create a Council of Queens.
However, I dislike the unrealism of every woman being attracted to such an unattractive ugly old man, I wish the protagonist would be redesigned to ACTUALLY look handsome for the sake of credibility, and I dislike having to play favorites which is why I invited no one in the villa if I can't invite everyone and I hope to be able to create a Council of Queens instead of choosing one Queen which would be unfair and because each woman features her own originality to contribute to the harem so it would make sense to work the same way politically which is why I want to create a Council of Queens to allow every woman of my harem to support me politically just as they have already been doing privately. 🙂
Actually, I suspect Flora to be nobility as well because of her behavior and the fact that Aricellus couldn't impose himself on her as he has done every other servant, my theory is that she was a Caledonian Princess before Caledonia got invaded and her (royal) family was enslaved and sold in all parts of Caudium and this is one of the many points which have been bothering me because the longer this story has been taking to progress and the more contradictions and inconsistencies have been inserted such as when we first met Flora, she told us that "the Gauls raided her land and enslaved her family who they separated and sold to various parts of Caudium" and this is confirmed by her character profile however when she first met Estrid, she accused "her people", as in the Danes, "to have raided her land and murdered her family" instead of the Gauls and this is also confirmed by Britannia history in the Codex but that can't be both at the same time as it is contradictory, which is one of the many contradictions which have been bothering me as how am I supposed to follow a story which doesn't even follow itself?
Anyway, regardless of who actually raided her land and enslaved her family, I am fairly certain that she is actually a Caledonian Princess because of her unsubmissive behavior and because this is the only reason King Aricellus couldn't have imposed himself on her as he has done every other servant as her political statut is special even though she is a servant.
I have been looking forward to find her enslaved family in Caudium and restore her royal family in Caledonia then marry her as a restored Caledonian Princess to forge an alliance between Caledonia and Caudium along with my alliance with the Danish Kingdom through marrying Princess Estrid, this would make Caledonia and the Danish Kingdom allies with each other as well just like Flora and Estrid are growing friends. 🙂
And this is why the excruciatingly slow progress of this story has been really frustrating because it holds so many possibilities and none of them has been explored so far because we have been wasting time with obvious plots which should have already been solved since Lydia and Isabella should have been arrested for treason at the same time as Aristhenes already and Felix too should have already been at least questioned for his VERY OBVIOUS suspicious behavior which we have been imposed to ignore for too long already and the damn thing has not even been updated anymore for damn years already!
So how much longer do you imagine it will take to explore all of this story's possibilities?!That is, IF they are explored instead of keeping wasting our time with obvious plots and wasting this story's immense potential...
Another point is that since Tullia is much more similar to Valentina than Valentina is to Helena as they both seem carefree while actually being clever, and since both Tullia and Aricellus were libertine, that Tullia was envious of Helena when they were young, and that Helena was resentful of Aricellus, I logically deduced that Aricellus cheated on Helena with Tullia and this is how Valentina was born.
Then Helena pretended to be her mother in order to hide her husband's cheating and she has always despised Valentina specifically because her very existence has been reminding her that her husband cheated on her with her best friend.
It all made sense and so I looked forward to see Tullia's butt to confirm that Valentina's butt birthmark that nor her sisters nor Helena have came from Tullia and when I finally saw Tullia naked, she didn't have the butt birthmark which disappointed me and lead me to think that the author took so long to develop the story that he literally forgot the butt birthmark when he FINALLY showed Tullia naked after teasing us for so damn long.
