After posting that, I noticed that there's an indicator when you first shine the light on the boat, but perhaps you could make that flash each time you shine your beam on a boat to make it more clear.

Also, I ran into an issue where a boat can get stuck outside of the playable area if it's trying to turn around at the edge of the ocean and the beam can't reach it anymore.
