Monster Codex: The Treant
Treants are large, humanoid trees. These gentle giants dwell within the oldest of woodlands and forests throughout the land. They act as defenders of the natural order.
The first treants likely first arose long before any sapient populations and remain to this day. As a result, they have been sought after for their wisdom. A treant has never been recorded to die of old age, leading to the belief that they are immortal. While this isn't proven, it is unlikely anyone alive today will witness one of these events.
As stated prior, treants serve the land they live on by protecting local wildlife. While they tend to prefer non-violent deterrents (which include intimidation, verbal warnings, and forceful relocation), treant can and will use lethal force when required. It is for this reason, alongside basic decency, that the territories of treants remain unharmed.
Treants have a symbiotic relationship with elven folk, as the elves help the treant's domain flourish and the treant protects the elves from larger threats such as invading armies, angered trolls, or even dragons.
