holy ai- if you're going to replace the ai art with stuff done by actual artists, why not just get your planned artists to do placeholder artwork, like insert a sketch or something?

Like I know that still involves putting the time and effort into working with real people and paying artists even for their concept art. But it's like if you can't be bothered doing the bare minimum, why should I bother with your game? AI is just such a red flag for lack of care or passion I feel.

Hi Makato123, I'm happy to say that as of version 1.7a all the AI generated placeholder art has been replaced with my own pixel art.  I currently double as the developer and the artist (and I'm better at developing).  It has taken me hundreds of hours to get caught up on the backlog of character portraits and dialog rigs for roughly 81 unique characters (not to mention the location portraits), but I've done it little by little over the past year and 7 releases.

Please understand that The Rift Between Us is still in its very early stages.  It has been free to download up until this point, and has not accepted money or donations because of its experimental nature.  So it was a bit of a catch 22 situation, unfortunately.  Do I invest hundreds of hours (or hundreds of dollars) up front on artwork for a project I'm not sure is going to work out?  I needed to get early feedback on the mechanics of the game, which is why I posted it on itch.io.  The good news is that, AI aside, the feedback has been generally positive on the game concept, so I have the answer I needed.

Anyway, I appreciate your passion for demanding human created artwork.  I would expect nothing less in a commercial product.
