You're right. Before gen-AI people just had blank backgrounds. There were no stock photos or sketches people could give credit to to act as placeholders. Thank you gen-AI, your plagiarism software has given us things we've never had before.

Oh wait.

To be perfectly clear, AI is kind of a giant, glaring red flag that you don't care about quality. It's like you're just telling me that you aren't interested in putting in the effort into making your game good, so why should I care about playing it?

also like, so long as they're accepting money at any stage for their game, even in the future or for donations/crowdfunding etc, it's a commercial product. I'd rather give my time and money towards stuff that's actually good.

Sure, if you wish to. No one despised you for your opinion. I can draw, but I'm not interested in drawing backgrounds, but it's still needed in my game and I want it to be a single person project.

The problem is, you are totally getting me wrong, because I'm drawing a line between acceptable and not acceptable– With that blind hatred, you are nothing better than a basic hater.

Personally, I'm disgusted how other companies are using AI for their advertisements in TV and literally on social media, but there are also so many fun things as well.

Back to the game- as long as it's cohesive and fun- I don't really care. I understand the danger behind it, but still not the tool's the wrong, but the person behind it.

For me, if it's a personal project or if used for learning, it's fine. If the project has a patreon, but regardless of that, still free, it's still fine. But if it's mainly built on ai and it demands money, then that's a big no from me. There are people who are not good at everything and still has a dream while being unable to afford it, I don't despise them. It's just silver lining.

(Oh, and not to mention, 99% of stock photos are not free and they are less likely to match your taste, afterall, everybody wants the best.)
