you could have other shapes
a source material thats making the shapes and upgrades for it (less triangles made)
you could add workers that have an upgrade-able chance to catch triangles or other shapes
colors could mean something and have different upgrades
you could have a factorio style belt that you have to architect your factory while you're playing the rest of the game.
